More football gear headed for Vanuatu

March 2015 190

In a land that so loves the beautiful game, I wasn’t surprised when I was asked to once again see if I could source some more football strips.   We had been able to arrange to re-home 50 teams of football kits throughout Vanuatu in 2013 and word had obviously spread that there might be a possibility of more being available.   Yes there were. Football teams in New Zealand, and no doubt the great majority of westernised nations, replace team gear on a regular basis, but what to do with the old gear?

Spread the joy I say.

So, as it happened, the football club who had kicked off the original donations were again in early 2015, having another clear out of unwanted strips and balls, perfect timing!

14 teams later and armed with about 150 footballs, my car was loaded (twice). The strips were, washed, sorted and bagged up ready to distribute to ni Vanuatu workers based in New Zealand for the busy fruit harvest season.   The workers will take the gear back to Vanuatu with them or in a hired shipping container, so that at least six villages will have a team kitted out with a team look.

A great big thanks to AMI Suburbs Football Club of Nelson, helping Lav Kokonas , pay it forward in Vanuatu.
